Jack's Free Pick Friday: Tennessee -3

The Creighton Bluejays were pretty fortunate to get by Oregon in the Round of 32.  They trailed by 4 late and needed double-OT to put away the Ducks, who were basically just a two-headed monster as Couisnard and Dante scored 60 of their 73 points.

Now the Bluejays take a big step up in class against a Tennessee team that has no weaknesses.  The Volunteers rank 3rd in adjusted defense and are elite defensively every year, and now they finally have their best offense of the Rick Barnes era to make a deep run.  The Volunteers rank 30th in adjusted offense.

I was impressed that Tennessee was able to get by Texas last round despite shooting an uncharacteristic 3-of-25 (12%) from 3-point range.  The Volunteers won't come close to shooting that poorly again.  Dalton Knecht (21.1 PPG, 39.1% 3-pointers) is in line for one of his biggest games of the season.  The Bluejays have no answer for him defensively.

Zakai Zeigler (11.7 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.8 SPG) is a pest defensively and this is another matchup that works in their favor.  He will be up against Steven Ashworth, who had five 3-pointers against Oregon but will get shut down by Zeigler.  And Jonas Aldoo (12.0 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 1.9 BPG) can handle Creighton's Ryan Kalkbrenner.

Barnes has a ton of versatility with his roster as he can go offense-heavy or defense-heavy when the time calls for it.  Creighton's biggest problem is that they have no depth and get nothing from their bench.  I think Tennessee's physicality will wear them down in this one with the Volunteers pulling away late.  Bet Tennessee Friday.
