As of 8 AM PST/11 AM EST, we're starting to see a few more dollars coming in from the general public on the underdog. And why not? They have taken three of five meetings SU this season with today's opponent. Going back a bit, they have also covered six of the last seven meetings. The Timberwolves are running hot, winning and covering their last five overall contests, which does include Game 1 of this series. But the Denver Nuggets don't drop too many games at the Ball Arena. And if you recall a season ago, they flew through the postseason with ease, earning them the NBA Championship. But as a handicapper and bettor, when you take a team like the Nuggets, which lost at home as a favorite in the series opener, I really do see them bouncing back here with authority and flexing their muscles. Granted, they have failed to cover the last three outings, and sometimes tend to get overvalued by oddsmakers. But the defending champs know that they must come back today and not just win, but win strongly. Don't forget this team is one of the most accurate shooting teams in the NBA, while possessing a top 10 defense in every major category. They are also equally strong on both the offensive and the defensive glass. I just don't see them falling 2-0 in this series before a Game 3 matchup on the road. Take the Nuggets. Thank you.

MLB Free Pick - San Diego at Chicago

When the clubs collided in San Diego back in early April, the Padres took two of three games from Chicago, outscoring the Cubs 19-10 in those victories. But Chicago is 14-9 since dropping that three-game set, and it most recently picked up a 5-0 win over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Thanks to that shutout, the Cubs continued to stay unbeaten in series at home (4-0-1).  Chicago starters Hayden Wesneski, Jameson Taillon and Javier Assad combined for 18 1/3 shutout innings in the series with Milwaukee, and now left-hander Justin Steele (0-0, 1.93) will look to give the Cubs a fourth straight quality start today.  In two career starts against the Padres, Steele has gone 1-0 with a 0.73 ERA.

Both teams have been pretty good to start the year, but Cole Ragans at home at this price is the correct call in our opinion in the opener of this IL series. Bryse Wilson is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA, but he makes his fourth start of the year only as he tries to transition out of the bullpen and into the rotation. He's been decent, but we still give the nod to Cole Ragans here, who is 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA, and who enters on top form after allowing just one run in each of his last two starts, most recently going seven innings in a victory over the hard-hitting Jays last time out; consider Ragans and KC on Monday night!
