Green Bay Packers at Indianapolis Colts Betting Pick

Entering Week 11 of the NFL season, the playoff picture is beginning to take shape. In the AFC, 10 teams with four or more wins are still in contention for the seven playoff spots. The NFC also has 10 teams with four or more wins, but they are all in three divisions.

The NFC East still doesn’t have a team at that threshold, yet its winner is guaranteed a playoff spot. That means it will be a scramble in the NFC for those remaining six spots. It’s likely a pretty good football team will be left out of the postseason party.

In one of the premier matchups of the week, two division leaders meet in an inter-conference game. The 6-3 Indianapolis Colts host the 7-2 Green Bay Packers, one of the top teams in the NFC.

The Surging Colts

The Colts are coming off an impressive win over the Tennessee Titans. The 34-17 victory propelled them into a first-place tie in the AFC South with the Titans.

Quarterback Philip Rivers has done a nice job since coming over from the Chargers. The offense is 14th in the league in total yards, and the passing game is ranked 10th.

The real story in Indianapolis is the defense, which is tops in the league in yards allowed. They’ve held six of their nine opponents to less than 300 yards, including the last two. The Colts have allowed 19.7 points a game, fourth in a league that is intent on high-scoring games.

Packers Leading the NFC

Green Bay is tied with New Orleans for the best record in the NFC. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is again leading them to what looks like a deep playoff run. The Packers are now at 9-1 odds to win the Super Bowl after beginning the season at 35-1.

Despite the usual focus on Rodgers and the offense, Green Bay’s defense is providing plenty of support. The unit is ranked ninth in the league in total yards allowed. That is more than sufficient with an offense that has scored the third-most points in the league.

Betting Lines

The Colts are two-point favorites over the Packers, and the over/under is 51 points. The moneyline has Indianapolis at -120 and Green Bay at +110. Casual bettors wonder where pro handicappers will go in this one.

Against the spread, the Colts are 5-4, and the Packers are 6-3. Neither team has been involved in games that consistently beat the over. Both have a record of 5-4 against the over/under.

Game Preview and Pick

The last time the Packers met a defense similar to the Colts, they were throttled by Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers held Green Bay to 201 total yards and forced two turnovers in a 38-10 rout. The Packers only had 107 passing yards against the Bucs.

The Colts will try to do what Tampa Bay did and should have some success against the Packers. Last week, Indianapolis ran the ball for 133 yards against the Titans. If they can have similar success this week, it should be a good outcome for the Colts.

Look for Indianapolis to cause problems for Rodgers and the Green Bay offense.

Take the Colts and the under. Colts 27, Packers 20.
